Some projects in our shop make people wonder exactly what we are up to. What could it possibly be? Most often the pieces that cause the most puzzlement are assemblies of a larger project. We've begun work on the electrical tower for Hazelnut Inn. The roof structural support, soffits, beams and bracket assembly is now fabricated. Looking at it makes people wonder. But look close and imagine where it will be located and things make a little more sense. Eight elephant heads make up the brackets. The beams are defined with the square frames of pencil rod. In the next while it will be mounted to the tower frame, meshed and then coated with concrete for sculpting. About that time it will begin to make real sense. Stay tuned...
Quality grampa time with Henry
Janis & I got to take care of little Henry for a few hours this evening. It was a chance for me to spend some quality time uninterrupted (by all the baby hogs in our lives). New kids fascinate me as they try every face they can muster. He smiled, grimaced, yawned and everything in-between. Like his sister and cousin before him I think he has me wrapped securely around his finger. But I have my grampa image to uphold and so I began his real training of all things grampa's are famous for. To be continued... a every opportunity of course. :)
Bulked out
We made great progress on the Hazelnut Inn model today. The bulk of the buildings and rooflines are now defined. The model is large, about five feet long in total which makes it possible to really sculpt a lot of details into it. Building the model first and then the real thing is going to be a labour of love and a whole lot of fun!
