It is extremely exciting to finally be in the last stages of the land shaping of the Skallywag Bay Adventure Golf. My job is to direct the crew and machines as they do their work. The blueprints have long ago been abandoned as we shape the ground by eye and feel. Blueprints would be the hard way to do this task! Instead the landscape is being built to a visual standard. Everything simply has to work together. At this stage the greenery, shrubs and trees are still imaginary but I can clearly see them as we prepare for that work. The crew needs to simply trust what I tell them which is a very different way of working than they've been used to. We are having fun! Tomorrow we'll cast the stream and the concrete sidewalks for much of the golf and it will become even more permanent. Stay tuned...
The Gruffles
A theme park is all about the story and the characters in it. The inhabitants of Skallywag Bay are called Gruffles. They are a motley bunch - sixteen characters in all. Their presence is felt extensively though the park. All sixteen have their portrait on the Yardarm Swing ride, around the canopy. Captain Skallywag appears over the gate and in a statue in the center of the courtyard. Many of the Gruffle's names are on their houses, and other's likenesses are featured on signs through the park.. On hole seventeen four of the Gruffles, Dug, Scurvy, Dudley and Bucky have totems which golfers will interact with..
Magical Kraken
I'm back in Trinidad for the next week directing the crew as they work on the final concrete of the pirate themed park. As I worked today I couldn't help but notice the wonderful light of this beautiful island as it played with the features we are building. The giant sculpture of the mechanical KRAKEN was especially noticeable in the magical light. Here's two of the many great photos I grabbed today.
