When the bosses are away...

Peter and I were out of the office to attend a business meeting for the last couple of days.  Our meeting just happened to be in Florida. The crew was a bit jealous of our quick trip south but we left them lots of work and a tight deadline to ensure they kept busy  and out of trouble. This evening at quitting time they sent their report of progress along with a photo...

Dear Dan and Pete,

We are working exceptionally hard and are having no fun at all. Despite my vigorous beatings, the turtles are slow to comply. They seem to think they have their own way of doing things, which are apparently better than my way. Nevertheless, we seem to be making good progress and will meet our deadline. Glad to hear you're having as little fun as we are. Look forward to seeing you soon.

PS: we have sunshine here too…

Old concepts - new ideas.

In the last few days I've been going through many old drawings and concepts to assemble a presentation which we are making tomorrow morning to a new client. I went back about ten years and came across many drawings I hadn't seen in quite a while. Many of those concepts never made it past the design stage and the ideas still linger in limbo land. The ideas still looked good after all those years. Some day I'd still love to detail out these designs and build them. With our current experience and modern materials and tools I know we'd do an even better job than we might have back then.

Instant color!

It isn't very often we are pressed by deadlines in our shop. But last week the big snow storm shut the shop down for a couple of days. This week Monday was a holiday which meant the crew was off another day. The next truck has been scheduled to leave for NEB's in Ontario next Monday. That can't be altered. That means a whole lot of painting needs to be finished by then. The whole crew was busy painting today and made great time. The heat was turned up nice and cozy and plenty of big fans moved the air around over the pieces to help the paint cure in a hurry. The shop is a lot more colourful than a few days previous! It's my bet the job will get done with a few minutes to spare.  :)
