Turning the corner to 2017

It's hard to believe that another year has flown by and it is time to turn the corner into 2017. 2016 was a very busy year with lots of travel. We polished off some great projects and got well into a whole new set of exciting things to design and build. Some of the projects on the drawing board will be our most challenging yet.

2017 promises to be both busy and exciting and we are ready to hit the ground running. My wish for all is more of what you enjoy and are passionate about.

Rivets galore!

I only managed a little time in the shop this afternoon but it was relaxing to work on the detail on the train. It is always fun to watch a project quickly come together as the bits and pieces of detail are added. In the case of todays project it was all about the rivets, actually little balls of sculpting epoxy pressed into place. I kept things loose and sketchy as I feel it better tells the story of movement. There's still lots of jewelry to come, pipes, fittings, a whistle, bell and headlight and a whole lot more. This is how I have fun!

Here comes the train!

Normally one would lay tracks and then mount the scale train to them. But in this case the train engine chassis is purposely warped both vertically and horizontally for dramatic effect and so it was necessary to mount the train onto place and then position the tracks under the wheels. It took a little fiddling but things went smoothly. The wheels were temporarily mounted so they can be removed for painting. Two half inch steel rods plus the billboard actually hold the train in position.

Tomorrow once everything sets permanently I can begin the work on the train. Stay tuned...
