Last week when I was in Trinidad it didn't seem much like Christmas with palm trees and warm temperatures. Just the same, they were beginning the festivities and decorations and lights were abundant. This week in Dubai the sight of traditional Christmas as I know it is much rarer but still very much alive in the large malls. As I walked through a large mall tonight the bustling crowds certainly were very busy shopping. I've heard many of the workers on our project site talking of going home for the holidays. Peter's picture of snow at home has put me in the mood for the season. Late tomorrow night I'll be starting my long journey home - just in time for the holidays.
Snow Day
Despite the fact that we live in "The Great White North" we don't actually get that much snow in our neck of the woods. That being said, it has been cold lately - and the other day I opened up the back of the shop and discovered that it had snowed the night before... inside the shop.
But we wouldn't be able to hold our heads up as Canadians if we let little indoor snow slow us down. :)
A day of delight
My Dubai boss asked me to take a cab to his office before continuing on to the worksite. From his thirteenth floor window I was delighted to take in the gorgeous views of the city. Then it was off to the worksite for a few hours. My boss had to make a stop at the world famous Atlantis Hotel on our return. The hotel is situated on the Palm Jumeirah, a large man made island in the shape of a palm tree. I had lunch on the boardwalk overlooking the beautiful Arabian Gulf. I then jumped in a cab for another adventure which I will report on tomorrow...
