First color

The weather was far to uncertain (as is usual in June) to paint outside today and so it was time to do some painting inside the shop. The crew began the first coats of color on the small target and the other small pieces for the large one. As always it started with a primer and two base coats. On the third pass the crew began the blending process, painting out of multiple buckets to get the perfect wet blends. The colours are still very subtle at this stage but tomorrow the real magic will begin. Stay tuned...

Map to fun

Next week Cultus Lake Adventure park opens for the 2016 season. The park is looking fine with the trees and plantings now fuller and taller than ever. The park's cleanup crews have been busy in the last weeks getting everything ready for the many thousands of guests soon to arrive. Phoebe and I are eager to go and test out all of the rides. Over the winter months I drew up a new map for the park. We'll soon be measuring things out to see about squeezing in a little more fun.

A most magical portal to fun!

As Peter and I considered the design of NEB's Fun World's new entrance it was critical that it do a number of things. It of course had to be visible from everywhere in the large parking lot. It had to present a strong visual clue about what was inside. It had to create a sense of excitement and arrival and it had to convey that as you passed through the everyday world and all it's cares would be left behind. The answer to all of those needs was a fantastical arch of a giant fallen tree with magical creatures perched on top. The lettering will be backlit of course to make it even more special at night.
