We are still at the design desk working out the last of the details on the Viking ships. We're getting close now. The engineer is reviewing the many pages of structural drawings and as soon as he checks it out and give them his blessing we will be ready to start on the fun stuff... the actual construction. We are raring to go!
Still in love
Valentines Day at our house is noted but not hugely celebrated. How can one day be truly more special than another when it comes to something as important as love? Janis & I decided to 'celebrate' the day by going on a date... to Costco. We quietly and calmly enjoyed spending time together.
I first met Janis in high school. I was in grade 12, she one grade behind. For me it was love at first sight. Janis took a while to warm up to me.
I asked Janis to marry me after the first few weeks of seeing her. She wisely declined. I asked her again a few weeks later with the same result. But I was persistent and eventually (thankfully) she said yes! We jokingly say I chased her until she caught me... which is totally true. We've loved, lived and worked together for almost forty-two years. Happy Valentines Day!
Taking a bow - times two
The Viking ships we are creating for Dubai are part of an intellectual property from a recent movie. This means that the project art directors need to have their say to make sure the boats live up to the IP. Translating a cartoon image to the real world of building codes and practicalities as well as the realities of building, transport and final assembly necessitates some adjustments. We are in that process of deciding what is required on behalf of the engineering code and what is needed for the art. It's a tightrope that needs to be walked. We decided two more quick models of the bow sections of the ships should clear up a few queries and get the actual building process started quicker. The models needed a quick turnaround and so didn't get their final paint for this purpose. We'll add the color later for them to be used in our permanent display.
