Before the gates were pulled from the shop we gave them a quick spritz of mild reactive acid. They were then set out in the weather to gather a rust patina. In a couple of days the rust colour evenly spread over the entire surface and the gate's look changed in a large way. Once they are welded into place we'll use some dyes to make the layers slightly different hues and in the process separate them visually.
Last piece
We've begun the last piece to be shipped to Trinidad. (unless they decide they want a little more) While we still wait for a few measurements on critical areas we could start on the cab and front of the train. This time we had both drawings and the small model to reference which made things very easy. As with many of our pieces the first order of the day is the main structural frame. The final shape was formed in pencil rod and welded into a grid. Galvanized mesh was then tied into place. An epoxy skin will follow next week with a high level of detail hand sculpted in before it sets.
New sculpture gallery now live!
We've spent the last few days photographing, tweaking, and uploading the new pictures of our sculptures and study models from our studio. They are now displayed on a new Sculpture Gallery Page on our website. They showcase the craftsmanship, texture and colours of the real sculptures better than ever shown before.
