To make a truly memorable display we need to employ a variety of proven methods. Our favourite two are rich colour and textures. For the trade show booth we will play warm colours against cool along with a variety of textures. Rich patinas will highlight every carefully placed detail. Today the crew sculpted the first of the woodgrain which plays a wonderful contrast to the abundant heavy steel of the feature. Look closely and more details are noticeable now including the recessed steel letters on the lower deck. The embossed manhole cover will be sculpted tomorrow. We routed the pattern today.
The start of the illusion
Although much was done through the day, the crew was scattered through the shop on a variety of projects which meant progress wasn't easily visually evident. The biggest change was the beginnings of the addition of the base colours on the trade show display. The plywood back boards now resembles riveted steel paneling. As Angie adds more colour, glazes and weathering this illusion will be heightened.
Dressing up in his finest
Peter continues to work on his Sign Challenge piece. He's through the primers, base coats and on to the glazing. Next comes the weathering and aging. I know he's looking forward to inserting the wiring to many, many connections and then back to glazing once more. The true magic of this piece is about to happen. Stay tuned...
