From here on, the Sign Challenge piece will be worked on in bits and pieces. I walk by the sculpture many times each day, often stopping for a moment to figure out which piece will come next. When I have a few minutes to spare I add that piece of the puzzle. I decided to start at the top and work my way down. The motorcycle and two riders were first on the list. Each piece is done in two or three stages starting with a rough sculpt over a wire frame. After that sculpt cures and the figure is stabilized a second detailed coat of sculpt is applied. The bike was detailed out first and then the teen alien girl. The guy alien has been roughed out in readiness for the final sculpt.
The lights are on but nobody is home - yet!
I had a few minutes to spare and used them to weld up the supports for the vehicles and also hook up the wiring to enable the LED lighting on the levitation devices. The upper portions of the piece are now ready for the fun sculpting process.
I decided I would also add one last red light in the rocket cockpit - just for fun.
Just for laughs
The internet has changed many things in profound ways. It allows the sharing of ideas and images instantly around the world. I was recently contacted by Emily from Brisbane, Australia. She's a stand-up comedian and asked me for the one time use of an image I had posted to our blog some years ago. She understood I held the copy write and that she needed permission to use it which unfortunately is rare these days. The image was the concept art for the town crier which I had designed for a sign at the Fox and Hounds Pub. I granted permission for the single use and sent her the high resolution file. Today, she kindly sent me a file of the poster she had created. If you happen to be in Brisbane on November 20 check them out. :)
