Moving big steel!

With the new MultiCam Plasma cutter in place it is time to do a total reorganize of the shop. We are relocating the metal rack and a bunch of other metal working equipment into the new work space. In our shop it is a little different procedure than most. Before the metal rack was rebuilt we first needed to move the giant "STEEL" letters that now mark the spot. I fabricated them just after we bought our hand held plasma cutter more than a decade ago. The fancy tool made things so much easier than the old oxyacetylene torch we had used up to that point. Now the job would be even easier and faster because of the automated CNC plasma. I can hardly wait to get it hooked up next week!

Peter the Grinch!

This morning was like Christmas! The eighteen wheeler pulled up to our drive with a massive, wrapped package on the back. We had been eagerly anticipating it's arrival for weeks. It was our brand new Multicam CNC plasma cutter. It didn't take long to pull off the chains and heavy tarps and scoot the forklift up to the truck to carefully lift it off. Then I gingerly and very slowly drove  the 400 feet to the back of the shop with the precious and heavy load balanced on the forks. Matt walked ahead and guided me through the tight spots. The crew laid down some blocking and the machine was slowly lowered to it's new home. While I was ready to rip off the heavy white plastic wrapper Peter insisted it stay in place one more day until the electrician arrives to hook up the wires. I think Peter is a bit of a Grinch... But he goes home at 4:30...
