READY... SET...

It is always extremely exciting to visit the site of a theme park in the making. The site feels ready to explode with creativity. Scallywag Bay is no exception. Today it was time for our visit. It was a bit surreal to peek into the nine full shipping containers on site. The last time I was inside I looked back at out shop as I exited, this time I was surrounded by the lush jungle landscape of Trinidad. I was delighted to see that everything arrived onsite in perfect condition. Then it was time to sit with the owners, engineers, architects, surveyors, site superintendent and contractors to go over the last minute details and concerns. Tomorrow it is time to do the on-site survey to do a final layout for all of the buildings and attraction/rides. Stay tuned...

Buried treasure

After many setbacks and delays, the official sod turning ceremony for Scallywag Bay is now at hand at last. As we hastily planned the event we knew a typical sod turning would not suffice. Inspired by the legend of Scallywag Bay we decided the assembled officials should instead dig for buried treasure. As the official ceremony proceeds I will 'interrupt' and produce an authentic map of Scallywag Bay. It will pin point the proper place for them to dig for the hidden treasure. The treasure chest will contain a souvenir gold coin (a Canadian loonie) for everyone in attendance...  This meant we needed a treasure chest in a hurry. We quickly gathered available hand tools, and materials on hand and set to work, improvising as we went. I missed my well equipped shop at home but we successfully produced a nice little chest suitable for the grand event!

Experiencing Baahubali

A sizeable measure of being a good designer is to experience as many things as I possibly can. This afternoon my clients invited me to go see an East Indian movie at the local IMAX theatre. I was delighted for this would be a first for me. The movie was called 'Baahubali'. It had English subtitles. It was an unbelievable movie, bigger than life, full of high drama, wonderful singing, a love story, a story about family, dancing, grandiose scenery and sets, many action scenes and even more epic battles. It was so far over the top that it was wonderfully entertaining from start to finish. Words simply can't describe this movie. If it comes to a theatre near you give it a go!
