Adding the runaway mine train into the existing Giggle Ridge Adventure Golf is a BIG job. First came the demolition, cutting large holes into the concrete playing surfaces and walkways. The old clubhouse and courtyard were totally removed. Massive holes were dug for the footings and concrete was poured. Scores of giant concrete pillars now rise from the ground which will hold up the massive steel structure for the ride. The Adventure Golf we built fifteen years ago has changed in a big way. This is the view from where the clubhouse used to reside.

The view from hole one gives a good idea of how things have changed. The train will be suspended over about half of the golf.

Imagine playing the first hole while the train roars past at full speed overhead.

Giggle Ridge will be a whole different place when we are done.

Our challenge is to integrate these large posts into the landscape in a meaningful way and not take up too much real estate in the process. The posts are just over 30" in diameter. Our solution will be to paint the posts a dark color to minimize their presence. We are creating large barrels which will be slid over each post making the top portion appearing to be resting on the barrels.

These are slightly less than half of the required barrels we will need for the task.

In only a few weeks Giggle Ridge will start to look less like a heavy construction zone and more like a place to have fun. Stay tuned to watch the rapid progress.

For real this year!

Each year, on a sunny day sometime in January I'll jump start the lawn tractor and then take some pictures of me mowing the lawn. It's my way of poking all my good friends back east, knowing they are still very much in the dead of winter and shoveling snow. We had a great January weather-wise, but I was busy this year. So it is now the middle of February and we just got back from sunny Florida. Amazingly the bulb flowers are now up and blooming, the cherry trees are already in blossom and the willows are showing their leaves. It's a few weeks early even for us.

This morning in the bright sunshine it was evident that the lawn really did need mowing. and it was a balmy 14 degrees celsius (just over 57 degrees fahrenheit) - a perfect day for mowing the lawn. It was so warm the tractor started on the first try - without having to break out the jumper cables or battery charger. I felt a teeny bit bad while having my picture taken in my shirt sleeves knowing that back east the weather isn't quite so nice. I got over that feeling in a hurry as the scent of fresh cut grass wafted over me.

This is no put-on it's for real this year! you can insist all you want that you'd rather shovel snow than mow lawns. I don't believe it for a second. Eat your heart out. :)

Guppy ready to set sail

We had a great visit to Florida and our favorite theme parks but it was good (as always) to return home and get back into the shop. Today was all about catching up, returning calls and messages and getting my head back into the same time zone once more. Peter and the crew did awesome while we were gone and the parking lot is plug full of features ready to put into the containers for shipping. The sixth forty foot container arrives on Monday.

The shop was a very busy and full today as the painting crew put the finishing glazes on the giant play ship for the Treasure Quest area. It is a bright purple color which will make it stand out in a spectacular fashion.

The mighty GUPPY is ready to set sail
