More concept art

The final masterplan (number ten) for Skallywag Bay is now approved and official. With that good news we are now reaching out to many more subcontractors and suppliers for the build of the project. As each new player enters the scene my phone begins to ring and the emails stack up in a hurry. Everyone has questions of course. The challenge is to make sure everyone works to the same vision, which lives in my head. Many of the smaller details are still months from being worked out and won't be finalized until I am onsite during my frequent visits to the workplace.

But with the final version of the plans now released I can do more concept art to clarify the vision as needed. Today's drawing was of the main building facade. The red line on the plan above indicates the angle, direction and scope of viewing for the drawing below. There have been many previous versions of this drawing but each one became obsolete as change after change happend over the last nine versions of the master plan. Now there is certainty at last.

This project is both challenging and exciting to say the least. It's a bit like juggling cats at times but it is also very rewarding to be in charge of so many teams working hard towards the same goal. There's nothing I would rather do!

Thar be treasure hidden here

As we build each element of Skallywag Bay we are taking great delight in adding as much detail and hiding as many things as we possibly can. There will be countless things hidden all through the land. The current project is for Treasure Quest, the kids area. Kids will explore, climbing and interacting with every feature. We'll imbed clues into the concrete pathways leading the kids on a roundabout journey towards the hidden treasure.

In our shop we'll work the opposite direction, starting with the treasure and the giant tree it's hidden in. As with all of our projects we started with the structural components. Now we are on to the welded pencil rod frame. We imagine exactly what we want to build and then bend and welld the quarter inch rod to make it - one piece at a time. Peter is taking lead on this project, fashioning the key frames, while Matt is filling in the rest of the frame behind him.

The tree and hidden treasure are taking shape quickly.

Take a close look and they are both plainly visible especially if you use your imagination...

Eye candy for our workshop guests

Preparations are underway for the two workshops that are quickly approaching. We take great pride in presenting a workshop unlike any other our guests have ever been to previously. The first thing they see when entering our studio is a custom name plaque made just for them. At the end of the workshop they get to take it home as a souvenir.

Each of the name plaques is a small dimensional sign - eye candy like we are famous for. Our crew will paint it up very creatively too. I've now got almost half of them carved and ready to paint. Here's a sampling.

We still have one available seat in each workshop if someone still wishes to attend.
