The first planting

With work progressing quickly all over the property it is time to begin the planting of the landscape materials. Janis and Becke made a run to the nurseries to pick out the first load and tonight we began by planting the first few bushes around the giant trees on the front of the house. Many more plants will follow as will new turf in the next weeks.

It won't be long until the landscape frames the house properly.

Day of Sarah

Today was the 'official Day of Sarah'. We were celebrating her fifth anniversary with our company.

Sarah started with us up at Giggle Ridge Adventure Golf while still in high school. As Becke often claims, I stole all her best people and asked Sarah to come work in our studio rather than up at the golf. All through university she came in at every opportunity and worked full time on breaks and through the summers. I appreciate her willingness to tackle any and every job we ask of her and always with a giant smile on her face.

The entire crew enjoyed a barbecue lunch with two kinds of ice cream cake for desert. Sarah also got to tsake the afternoon off - with pay.

Thanks for a great five years Sarah!

Why did the rooster cross the tracks?

As we have developed our property over the last twelve years the only thing constant has been change. The property grades have changed as much as six feet and rolling lawns have replaced flat ground. The old house is gone and is now replaced by the nice new one. Fence lines have changed and driveways have been re-routed as needed. With each change, the signs on the property have also been moved.

Now, with the grades, fence lines, train tracks and driveways being set permanently its time to find permanent locations for the signs. The sign that has moved the most is the rooster sign. It's new home is on the corner of the lawn, beside the tracks at the edge of the driveway. Here it will hopefully be safe from vehicles backing up or turning. We'll have to touch up the scars from previous encounters.

The rooster and sign will remind those who travel down the driveway to go slow and watch for those who might roam across their path.

The rooster crossed the tracks to get to it's permanent home.
