Telling a story right.

We love to tell stories with our signs. The more elaborate and embellished these stories are told the better.

The Windmill Drop ride is in the Western area of the park. The ride will wisk riders up to the top of a sixty-five foot tower and then drop them rapidly towards the ground. That's scary stuff for some people. The vulture on top of the sign nailed to a cactus enhances that feeling. But having just the vulture telling the story would be like the Reader's Digest version. There's far more to tell.

The tall tower ride will of course have a twenty-one foot windmill tower perched on top, It will look scary high from down on the ground.

And around the bottom of the cactus we needed the leftover pickin's of the vulture who's waiting for the next carcass to show up. Today we began those pieces of the puzzle. The rib cage of the steer is still to come.

It's great fun to tell a story as it should be told.

Taking our work for a spin

The crew was busy all day layering on the glazes over the bright colors we had painted yesterday. The end result is that the bright colors peek through the glazes and the variety of the colors underneath adds dimension and breaks up the large pieces. They will polish off the tree house and roof tomorrow.

The bridge center span support will begin to get it's color tomorrow.

The last bridge support is now in the works. We built a giant rotisserie to allow the large piece to be easily turned while we work on all sides.

I like to think of it as taking our work for a spin.

Wild color

As we get into painting some of the features for the park like the tree fort and the control booths we decided to experiement with color a little more than usual. Rather than paint the large pieces with a single color and then apply the glazes we would instead use a variety of colors and then tie it all together with a series of glazes. Here's a shot of Hailey applying the first glaze to the colorful inside.

On the roof we decided to up the ante a notch and so the ladies painted the roof from five different buckets of paint using three colors on each shingle. The result is shocking!

But have no fear for I'm sure it will all be very cool when we are done. Best of all the colors that peek through the glazes will add a liveliness and richness instead of it being a giant monolithic brown color.

For the control booths we decided to go with a different color on each booth as suited to the area in which they will live. The Balloon Adventure/Carousel booth was the first ready for paint and it is to be a rich red. The undercoat was a pepto pink which was pretty wild and the red that followed seems almost understated. Glazes will follow the red as well to change it yet again.

It will be another two work days before these pieces are done and ready to go out of the door. Stay tuned for the final result...
