Double delivery

Since we had hired the crane to install the giant log we decided to do the tree for the tree fort at the same time. We loaded it onto my flatbed tailer and made the trip at the same time as the log. Once the log was in place we repositioned the crane truck and hooked up the tree. It was a lighter load but an even further reach. John swung it out over Giggle Ridge golf to put it into position. He had to lift it very high to clear three trees in the way.

Once it was close (as far as John could reach) a bunch of us pushed it over and we managed to get one side of the base bolted down. Then we tipped the tree into position for the final bolt down.

We'll build the root system of the tree in place. This is the tree that will hold up the tree fort that is currently being fabricated in the shop. Two rope bridges will attach to it making it a very fun place for kids to go to. The fort is inside Giggle Ridge Adventure Golf which means the kids climbing here will be able to have a great view through that facility. I took this overview photograph of the Wilderness Adventure area at the end of today's workday. The concrete pad to the left of the water tower will hold up the first bridge tower that is now ready in our shop. The concrete footing just in front of the little building with the blue chimney will house the second bridge tower that is also in construction in the shop. The tree we installed today is peeking from behind the giant fir tree. The fourth connecting point for the swinging rope bridges is the concrete work to the extreme left. Three swinging bridges will connect those points. A fourth rope bridge will come down from the treehouse to a platform behind the water tower. It is all going to be very cool!

There are plenty more areas for kids to explore in this area including the winding caves under the walkway and the giant log of course. We have many more surprises in store as well. I can hardly wait to see it all in use!

Giant log install

Today it was time to do the giant log install at last. It was wheeled from the shop last night. This morning when I returned from delivering the tool trailer to the worksite John Wishlow was all set up in the driveway and ready to begin the load. We hooked it up and when it was clear of the ground John could weigh the piece on his crane. It weighed in at a whopping 5,800 lbs.

John smoothly centered and dropped the big load on the trailer. Peter hopped up to unhook the chains.

We threw on some heavy duty straps and Chris was off to the lake. The unload was of course the reverse process - only a whole lot more difficult as the site for the log was at the furthest end of the crane truck's capabilities. We hooked up the log securely and it was time for it's final flight and fly it did!.

John lifted the heavy log up and over the water tower we had installed a few weeks back and skillfully lowered it into position. Chris' crew did the manhandling on the ground to get it just another couple feet past John's reach. It worked and another key feature was home.

Every day we add another piece to the magic that will be Cultus Lake Adventure Park. It's a whole lot of fun!

Still BIG

Generally when we push a project out of the shop it seems to start shrinking as soon as we squeeze it through the door. The giant log took our entire team to push and carefully steer out if the shop but it fit without a problem. We pushed it far enough away from the building to allow the crane to hook up first thing tomorrow morning. This time however the piece didn't shrink. It looked just as massive out in the driveway as it did in the shop. Inside the shop suddenly seemed emptry and even a little cavernous. We filled the space with new projects to instantly cure that unfamiliar feeling.

I suspect that the log will look just as massive (or even bigger) when we load it onto the trailer. And then when we set it into the Wilderness Adventure area it will be the same.  Without a doubt the log is going to determine the placement of everything around it. Stay tuned for the continuing adventure...
