Workshop coming fast!

With the Sign Magic and Sculpture Magic Workshops now just over a month away we are in full blast get-ready mode. I've been busy creating the files and routing the twenty-five one of a kind name plaques we need for our guests. I'm a little more than half way through. They measure about 16" wide. Before the workshop guests arrive we'll have them all painted up to show the many different techniques we use on a regular basis. Each plaque is unique and uses every trick in the book. Each student will get to take their name tag home when we are done. Here's seven of the fourteen done so far.

Day five test drive

Day five on the logging truck was a busy one with lots of visual progress. Little Matt polished off the welding on the giant log. While he worked big Matt started in applying the galvanized lath. The pencil rod frame quickly gathered shape, albeit still somewhat see-through. At the end of the day they posed for the daily progress picture... this time with big Matt driving. Little Matt squeezed inside the log frame.

The truck is coming along nicely. Stay tuned for more progress...

Day four on the logging truck

Today little Matt continued welding on the logging truck. In past days we were working on the structure. Today our focus switched to the physical appearance of the truck.

The body shape is formed with pencil rod, relatively easy to bend by hand and then welded to form a grid. Hundreds of feet of rod are used in it's construction. By the end of Matt's work day we had made pretty good progress.

After supper I went back out to the shop for an hour or so to build the front fenders and headlights of the truck.

Now the truck cab is ready for the attachment of the galvanized lath. Once that is done we will start in on the sculpted concrete skin. Keep watching as it comes to life.
