Six wheeler

Much more progress was made on the logging truck today. Matt cut plenty of steel and welded up a storm. Once the welding was done he ground things up nice and neat. Here's a shot of the back of the truck frame showing the authentic pintle hitch.

At the end of the day Matt did another test drive...

By the end of tomorrow the truck should have all of it's wheels. Stay tuned...

Beauty is more than skin deep

Every beautiful creation we create needs a sturdy (and beautiful) frame underneath. Some require lots of engineering and careful thought. The logging truck frame is such a creation. Parts of the truck frame  and a good part of the log trailer will be seen. They need to resemble the historical logging truck we are modelling. They also need to be strong and withstand decades of being out in the weather. Today Little Matt cut the many pieces of steel and began the task of welding it all together. He made great progress. Just before quitting time he took the truck for a test drive to make sure everything was working right.

It may not make a lot of sense yet to the untrained eye but this is going to be one very cool logging truck! Stay tuned for more developments...

Animal challenge

Drawing animals has always been something I have struggled with. The solution at first was to simply avoid animals if I possibly could. But like anything it is mostly a matter of practice. If I wanted to draw animals well I had to do it and do it plenty. The more I practiced the better I became at drawing. Now after more than fifty years of drawing I can manage.

Cartooning is another skill that was gathered over many years. In the last few years sculpting has become something I really enjoy, Over the last years I've done quite the menagerie.. Moose, deer, bears, elephants, horses, rhinoseros, squirrels, chickens, llamas, dragons, dinosaurs and a strange herd of others have been sculpted in my studio. The more animals I do, the more confident and comfortable I am creating them.

The more animals sculptures we get out there, the more calls we get to do them too. And that's a good thing!
