Fox now done

Today we made great progress on the Fox and Hounds sign.  The bulk of the sign was base coated and the fox recieved his final glazes. He instantly came alive. Tomorrow the Union Jack will get it's colors and then we'll begin work on the scroll and bottom lettering. It will only be another day or two at most before this big beauty is done.

This is truly a dimensional sign, and has much more relief built into it than the photos show, especially from any kind of angle. I can hardly wait to see it up on the building! I weighed it a few days ago for the engineer and it came in at 1,435 lbs.

COLOR!

Today we kicked into the coloring of the Fox and Hounds Pub sign. Everything will be double or triple coated )plus primer of course) Each layer of paint will be blended to provide the longest lasting finish. The fox is now double coated and awaiting the glazes and then the highlights and details. Just after lunch we'll be onto the flag colors and then we'll work our way down to the bottom.

With each step we take the sign just seems to get larger. There is nothing small about this sign.

CAW!

One of the projects in production in the shop is a chimney of sorts. A finishing touch on the Fox and Hounds Pub is a fake chimney that will cover an unused vent high on the roof. A crow is perched on the top of the chimney pot, calling down to those sitting on the patio below. The chimney will be sculpted with fiberglass-reinforced-concrete.

It will be one of the more unusual signs we've made of late but good practice for the house project just around the corner.
