Just the right size.

A BIG project in our shop right now is the gable sign for the Fox and Hounds Pub. It didn't seem that big as I designed it but as the assembly began it quicky became apparent just how monstrous this sign was. It measures twelve feet wide by ten feet high and with each layer I glue and sculpt on is getting thicker and heavier by the minute. I had to build a special rolling cradle to move it around the shop and out the big shop doors when it is done. The sign would not have fit out the door standing straight up. I'll have to weld up a second cradle to bolt to the trailer to transport the sign to the work site.

As a point of reference the ladder tucked in behind the sign is just under seven feet tall.

The sign does fit out the door and yes I did a test run just to make sure.

Invisible kid

Phoebe has a wonderful imagination and we encourage it at every opportunity. She surprises us almost every day with something new. Today she showed up wearing a mix of brown and green clothes. I admired her outfit and she informed us it was to allow her to hide extra good in her new fort.

Last week when we were taking down the trees for the new house she snagged a whole bunch of branches and built a secret fort on the back lawn. Her camouflage clothing would help her to hide there unseen by anyone who passed by. Sure enough I walked by a little later and Phoebe was no where to be seen. I looked everywhere but Phoebe was indeed invisible. It was only her giggling that gave her away.

I eventually found Phoebe with her hat pulled low over her eyes. I guess she figured if she couldn't see me then I couldn't see her.

Once I discovered her I gave her some hiding lessons to make her even more invisible.

Now we just have to get a camouflage outfit for her dog Ninja.

The story of the house.

Because of the length of time the house project will continue I've decided to chronicle it on it's own blog. It is going to take a great deal of our energy and time over the next while. We'll also be keeping the fires burning in the shop and doing our best to keep our customer's projects on schedule as well.

Along the way we are enlisting the help of some great folks and companies. I'll show each step of the project, showcasing the new products and methods we use to make this house efficient and unique. Some of these products we already use regularly in our shop. Some of the companies helping on the house are long time associates. We'll also meet lots of new people as well.
