The perfect window.

When we designed our house we knew we wanted curved tops on most of the windows. It took some searching to find the company that would make the windows. With the unusual design of our house, the windows and doors are all custom and had to be hand made by a skilled craftsman, with rounded sides and tops.We searched far and wide for the perfect windows, and it turned out that the company we were looking for ended up being just up the road, Innotech windows and doors

The windows are European style, tilt and turn, for the upmost in comfort and security. The north side (closest to the road) are triple glazed. All the windows have a triple seal to keep out noise, the cold and the weather.

The first batch of windows was delievered and installed last week. They looked fabulous and worked smoothly. Some of the radii were very tight and difficult to achieve - especially in a tilt and turn opening design.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the windows installed.

Thousands and thousands of hearts.

Matt has been painting up a storm on the many trim pieces. The rough woodgrain and the three layers of hearts routed into the Precision Board high density urethane means that it is tricky to get into every little crevace and pocket. As fast as Matt can apply the three base coats the MutliCam CNC router is churning out more.

This stack is only the vertical pieces we will need. The horizontal pieces start tomorrow.

Cool LED lighting

A number of years ago I discovered the coolest lighting I have ever seen. The LED lighting is connected by simply stringing the modules over a wire without contact. The lights can be slid back and forth while on and spaced out easily to what is required. The contactless lighting modules are super efficient of course and even made in Canada! It is called HEICO lighting.

The lighting modules we want to install will provide indirect up-lighting on the curved ceilings through the dining room and living room.

The feature lighting will also be done down the very long hallway, hidden under a heavy crown molding that will be towards the top of the wall.

Another area that will feature the lighting to good effect will the the stairway hidden in the giant tree. Under the handrail we have fabricated a pocket for the tiny LED lights. The mesh will be covered with sculpted fiberglass reinforced concrete to make it look like a tree.

This same lighting will be installed under the upper kitchen cabinets and a few other surpise places through the house for maximum effect. The lighting will create a special ambiance and also act as night lights when we have guests. It is going to be VERY cool! We are currently in the planning and specification stage, working with the folks at HEICO to create the very best possible effects. Stay tuned...
