Porch almost done

While Bec was busy applying speckles at one end of the house we were busy at the other end mudding and sculpting the trees on the porch. In spite of very high temperatures we managed three trees and one beam. Tomorrow, we hope to finish the sculpting on the porch area, leaving only the back of the house to complete.

We also have finalized the final colors for the trim boards on the house. The small heart panels will be a warm brown with darker wood grain that blends back to the window frames. Colorful hearts will act as accent panels where the horizontal and vertical boards meet.

It is pretty exciting to see it come together.

Speckled detail

We love details in our work. The rock work on the east wall now sports a base coat and two blended coats of paint. It was time to add the speckles to make the rocks look more like granite. Bec did that job today.

The first order of business was to mask off everything that wasn't to recieve the speckles. Then Bec fired up the air powered sprayer and let the dots fly.

The dark brown dots were first.

Lastly the white speckles were squirted on, The key is to keep things light for it is easy to overdo this step. Bec did a great job!

A thin grout line will be the finishing touch to the rock work. The ladies are already a good way down the front wall with the blue and purple colors. It won't be long until the front of the house is done as well.

Quiet progress

It was quiet today on our worksite. There were no tradesmen onsite, only our crew, very different from the last three months. Our crew was scattered throughout the worksite. On the east wall Jordin and Kylie (our rock painting specialists) were busy painting the blue and purple rocks. They finished the third coat of paint today making it ready for the speckles tomorrow. Once I spray on the speckles we'll go back one last time to paint on the grout lines between the rocks. Kylie and her sister Jordin have only been with us a couple of weeks but they quickly learned our unique methods of painting. With their good humor and hard work ethic they fit right in to our crew.

Out front Sarah and Hailey were busy laying on the glazes to the big tree. Tomorrow the last color will be brushed on. The second tree will get the first of it's base colors tomorrow.

Peter and Matt were mixing and trowelling concrete, finishing off the sculpting of two more trees in the carport area. I wasn't able to grab any pictures but that area is sure looking great!

Tomorrow the fun continues...
