Our yard got a whole lot emptier today as we loaded a fifty-two foot trailer full of features soon to be bound for Syl’s Mini Golf in Carmen, Manitoba. In fact, there were too many features to fit in the trailer with one large piece going on a second truck soon. We love shipping with our friends at JD Transport as they drop a trailer off for as long as we need for a leisurely loading process and then pick it up when we are ready. The key to getting these large, heavy features into a trailer is slow and easy. Haste makes waste when the bulky features weigh in at up to 5,000 lbs. We had previously welded up sturdy steel pallets, custom built for each feature to be bolted to. Each pallet is only a couple of inches narrower than the trailer making it unnecessary to block or tie down the load. We use a custom pushing rig to get the pieces to the front of the trailer. Everything slides in and out of the trailer easily and safely (with the proper equipment) without a chance of damage. Today’s loading went smoothly with just Peter and I doing the work.
